Connect Four: A Fun, No-Prep Review Game

Objective:
Be the first team to connect four in a row—horizontally, vertically, or diagonally—on the game board.

Whole Group Version (Low Prep)

  1. Prepare review questions ahead of time.
No time? Have students write questions on slips of paper and collect them to use in the game.
  2. Project a 6×5 grid on your screen or whiteboard.
    (6 columns, 5 rows)
  3. Divide the class into teams of 4 students.
  4. Assign a color  to each team:
    • Use different color sticky notes
    • OR write team numbers on sticky notes
    • OR use different colored magnets
  5. How to play:
    • The teacher asks a review question.
    • Teams have 45 seconds to discuss and answer.
    • A correct answer = place a sticky note or magnet on the board in any open space.
    • First team to connect four wins!

Option 2: Small Group, Self-Paced Version

  1. Give each group a cup or envelope filled with review questions.
  2. Number each student in the group: 1 to 4.
  3. Students take turns drawing and answering a question.
  4. If a student answers correctly, they:
    • Place a sticky note on their group’s printed 6×5 grid,
    • OR write their number (e.g., “1” for student 1) in an empty space.
  5. First team to get four of their numbers in a row wins!
